One of the big trends in beauty right now is B.B. cream. The allure of a B.B. cream is that it combines several different products (and steps) that you probably already incorporate into your makeup routine all into one product. Because I struggle with sensitive skin and break outs from using so many different products on my face I decided to give B.B. creams a try.
Because this is my first foray into the world of the BB cream and, ideally I would like to try several different brands to find what works best for my skin, I decided to start with a drug store brand first. This is good for cost reasons but can be a little sketchy for people with sensitive skin, depending on the brand you use. I did my research and decided to go with the Garnier skin renew miracle skin perfector BB cream in light/medium.
This BB cream is a sunscreen with an SPF 15, moisturizer, and skin perfector all in one. I've used the BB cream for about a week and I will say that, for the most part, it does what it says it will do. Not only do I have sensitive skin, I also struggle with rosacea on my cheeks and forehead. I usually use a concealer to help tone down the red spots on my face. To get a good idea of what this stuff can do, I took a break from my concealer for the week and just used the BB cream and a matifying powder. I do think that the BB cream did a really great job of evening out my skin tone and reducing the redness I struggle with. The product is buildable and it blends really well so you can use more of it in spots that you think you may need more coverage. I used more under my eyes to try to conceal my under eye circles, again, in place of my concealer and it did pretty well.
When I first saw the product, I'm not going to lie, it scared me a bit. I am pale...almost transparent actually so I have to use very light foundation. This BB cream only comes in Light/Medium and Medium/Dark so I was curious as to what the light/medium formula would do on my skin. The last thing you want after you put on your makeup is to look like you just got out of a tanning bed session gone wrong. At first, it looks definitely more medium and not light at all. As I stated above, the product is super easy to blend out so you can work with it, but you definitely want to start with a little and build it up. The coverage is really good so a little goes a long way.
While I really enjoy this product and will continue to use it, there are somethings I am not crazy about. The product has a really heavy perfume. It doesn't smell bad, its actually a really pleasant scent, but it makes my eyes water a little when I'm trying to conceal my under eye circles. I think for that reason I will continue to use a concealer and maybe even a primer so that I don't have to use quite as much of the BB cream on my problem areas. I have had to do quite a few touch ups with this product so I think that in addition to the powder I would definitely use a primer with this BB cream, especially if you have oily skin and/or problems with shine. I have noticed around mid day, some shine peeking through on the bridge of my nose and that typically doesn't happen with my full foundation routine.
I would definitely recommend this product for people like me who are wanting to try their first or experiment with a BB cream in place of their foundation without spending a ton of money.
Here are my before and after photos. Please disregard my unfortunate hair!!
